Check if you are using proper software version for your radio model. A software version tailored to your specific radio model number is very critical.
2. Radio did not respond and unable to program?
Check the audio jacks to see if they align perfectly. Make sure the connector is snapped all the way in. A few jacks require a significant amount of force applied to make the last bit of connection.
3. “An error has occurred” or could not open Port?
Try using another USB slot. You must unplug and replug your USB programming cable for the new port number to take effect.
4. Fail to connect with transceiver?
Make sure your radio is OFF when programming. Tune to a blank channel while trying to connect or completely remove the antenna. This could also be a result of other software running in the background that’s conflicting. Shut down your computer, unplug from the wall socket for a minute, plug in and start the process again.
5. “Run-time error” or no response from Windows 8?
Try downgrading to a more stable software version for your radio model or use the compatibility mode.
6. Process won’t save after programmed?
Assure you’re in VFO/FREQ Mode. Display A must be selected (for BaoFeng). Lastly, channel MUST be empty before programming frequency data.
7. Not receiving transmission or receiving from random users other than the ones planned
Ensure CTCSS undertones or DCS codes are programmed to be the same as your group members. Your signal may be contained by your current surroundings.
8. No notification after connection?
Check Ports (COM and LPT) in Windows Device Manager. If there’s an exclamation triangle next to USB device, your computer did not install the driver correctly. Correct it by right clicking on device and pick Update Driver Software.
9. Problem with device not working properly on laptops?
Check your Windows Power Management tab. Remove the check box from “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” and save.
10. COM Port unavailable or unrecognized?
Go to Devices and Printers, right-click on your device, and change to Never Install Driver Software then manually install using the downloaded driver. This is due to the driver getting overwritten by Windows.
11. Driver stopped working?
When you plugged your device into your computer, the device is set up to that specific USB Port. The driver is assigned to load for the USB slot and COM port ONLY. So if you’ve moved to a different USB port your device is again, unrecognizable.
